The Sounds That Shaped Me : Curating the Harmonic Convergence Playlist

Before I had words for who I was—I had sound. I had rhythm. I had feeling. And that was enough to begin. – King Esseen

Music didn’t just accompany my story—it scored it.

From Saturday mornings filled with Stevie and Sade, to late-night sample flips and freestyle ciphers in basements that smelled like vinyl and vision—sound has always been the heartbeat of my memory. But it wasn’t just the songs. It was the stories behind them. The texture of the album covers. The unapologetic expression. The vibe that couldn’t be manufactured.

That’s the seed of Harmonic Convergence: The Genesis Collection.

🖤 What Is Harmonic Convergence?

It’s not just a playlist.
It’s not just a visual experience.

It’s an offering. A curated sonic art gallery that bridges generations, geographies, and genres.
It’s my attempt to connect the dots between the music that molded me and the art that still moves me.

This collection lives inside the Cultural Alchemy: Tapestry of Arts exhibition as a sonic extension of the visual experience. Each album cover chosen—each track layered into the playlist—is tied to a memory, a moment, or a movement that helped shape my creative lens.

🎶 The Influence Is Personal

I didn’t just hear Outkast—I understood them.
When Lauryn spoke, it wasn’t just lyrics—it was scripture.
Dilla taught me that imperfection was divine.
And Grace Jones? She taught me that black eccentricity is sacred.

This playlist isn’t chronological. It’s emotional.
It’s memory. Movement. Mood.
Every track samples my journey, and in doing so, reflects a bigger truth:

Our sound is our signature. Our legacy is audible.

🎨 Where Sound Meets Visual Memory

There’s something powerful about album art.
Before you hit play, it already told you who the artist was.

For me, the cover of Songs in the Key of Life hit like a sunbeam through stained glass.
Basquiat’s energy whispered through Max Roach’s vinyls before the needle even dropped.
I saw the world through sound—and sound through color.

In Harmonic Convergence, I wanted to bring those worlds together.
To curate a gallery that you can hear.
To create a space where music becomes memory and visuals become vibration.

🔊 Why It Matters

In a world of quick hits and endless scrolling, this is the reminder:
Art still matters.
Music still heals.
Culture still builds.

And when you bring them together—intentionally, reverently—you don’t just consume it…
You feel seen.
